CrowdStrike Update Causing Widespread Blue Screens of Death on Windows Computers

Update: CrowdStrike Announces Workaround for Microsoft Outage

A recent update to CrowdStrike's Falcon endpoint security product has been causing computers running Windows to crash and display the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). The issue has been widely reported, with many users taking to social media to express their frustration.

How to Fix the Blue Screen of Death

CrowdStrike has released a workaround for the issue. If you are experiencing the BSOD after installing the latest CrowdStrike update, you can follow these steps to resolve the problem:

  1. Restart your computer in Safe Mode.
  2. Once in Safe Mode, open File Explorer and navigate to the following folder:
  3. C:\ProgramData\CrowdStrike
  4. Rename the "Falcon" folder to "Falcon_old".
  5. Restart your computer normally.

After following these steps, you should no longer experience the BSOD. CrowdStrike is working on a permanent fix for the issue, which will be released in a future update.

Microsoft Outage Linked to CrowdStrike

The CrowdStrike issue has also been linked to a major Microsoft outage that occurred on June 25th, 2021. The outage affected a wide range of Microsoft services, including Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint. Microsoft has confirmed that the outage was caused by a problem with CrowdStrike's Falcon software.
