National Weather Service Issues Tropical Storm Warning

Residents Urged to Prepare

**Honolulu, Hawaii** - The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tropical storm warning for the Central North Pacific from 140W to 180W. Tropical storm conditions, with sustained winds between 39 and 73 mph, are expected within the next 36 hours. Tropical Storm Idalia is currently located just south of the Big Island and is moving west-northwest at 15 mph. The storm is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Saturday morning once it emerges over the water between Cuba and Florida. The NWS warns that Idalia could bring life-threatening and potentially catastrophic storm surge, winds, and flooding to affected areas. Residents are urged to take precautions and prepare for the storm, including securing loose objects and stocking up on essential supplies. "This storm is a serious threat to our islands," said NWS Director Samuel J. Kekaula. "We urge everyone to take the necessary precautions and be prepared for possible evacuation." The NWS will continue to monitor the storm's progress and provide updates as needed. Residents are advised to stay tuned to local news and weather reports for the latest information.
