U20 Women's World Cup: Both Koreas into last 16 in Colombia

Dramatic wins send Koreas through

Both Koreas advanced to the last 16 of the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup in Colombia on Sunday after contrasting victories on the final day of Group B matches.

North Korea prevail in seven-goal thriller

North Korea came from behind to beat Canada 4-3 in a breathless encounter in Cali.

The Canadians took the lead twice in the first half through Jordyn Huitema, but both times the North Koreans fought back, with Ri Kum-suk and Kim Kyong-yong scoring the goals.

Ri Kum-suk then gave North Korea the lead for the first time in the second half, only for Canada to level again through Jemma Purfield.

However, North Korea had the final say as Kim Kyong-yong struck her second three minutes from time.

South Korea edge battling France

South Korea, who needed a win to qualify, edged out France 1-0 in Bogota thanks to a first-half goal from Moon Mi-ra.

France, who needed only a draw to advance, came close to an equaliser in the second half but couldn't find a way past the South Korean defence.

Both Koreas qualify for knockout stage

The results mean that both Koreas have qualified for the knockout stage of the tournament.

They will be joined by Nigeria, who finished top of Group B after beating New Zealand 2-0 in the other match.

The last 16 matches will take place on Thursday, with North Korea facing Brazil and South Korea taking on the Netherlands.
